I knew my bracket was in trouble when I logged on to ESPN.com and found out that Chris Close had filled out his own and called it “Chalk.”
You see, Chris is the keeper of the ASM, a numerical formula that only he fully and truly understands. The formula’s goal, rather than focusing in on first-round upsets and the like, is to get the big points by picking most of the Elite Eight and Final Four correctly.
And in 2008, he did just that. Five of eight in the former and three of four in the latter.
It’s for this reason that Chris Close is the winner of the first-ever RobertSpuhler.com NCAA Tournament Pool. Mr. Close will receive a prize appropriately picked by me to cause the most marital strife pure enjoyment.
Things I learned during this year’s tournament:
- Don’t call out a team at the start. That little Kansas crack in the description is looking pretty stupid right about now.
- The Big East lives to disappoint.
- I really don’t know much about college basketball. Every year I like to fool myself into thinking I do, and every year it turns out that I, in fact, should use darts and a blindfold.
