The lists have started – Spin, Rolling Stone, Onion A/V Club. I don't listen to nearly as much music as most professional critics, but between my work for amNew York and CBS Radio, I listen to a lot of music on my own. I've never tried this before, but was encouraged to (thanks, Madrid!) … so let's see what happens.
NOTE: If I don't mention your favorite band, it's likely because a) I didn't get to hear the album or b) Your favorite band sucks.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: Stars channeled co-Broken Social Scenesters Metric on its new album The Five Ghosts, with mostly positive results for the new wave-y turn. Lazerbeak's Legend Recognize Legend is somewhere between hip-hop and alt-rock and the Doomtree producer pulls it off with gusto. If there was justice, everyone would know Dan Mangan and his Nice, Nice, Very Nice. Sufjan Stevens is a victim of his own reputation; The Age Of Adz is fantastic, but not as fantastic as his prior records. And James has a new album – and The Morning After The Night Before is both good and relevant.
#5 and #4 tomorrow. #3 and #2 Wednesday. Superlatives on Thursday. #1 on Friday.
